"Ruhl's biggest, most ambitious effort yet" -New York Times
Three communities of players put on the annual Easter story of Christ while navigating the intersection of religion, art, and politics. This boldly inventive play spans three eras: Queen Elizabeth's England, Hitler's Germany, and Reagan's America. Passion Play is a return to the epic scope of Forum favorites Angels in America, Scorched, and Mad Forest.
Sarah Ruhl - Pulitzer prize finalist, Tony award nominee, MacArthur Fellow - was inspired to write this three-act cycle while reading a childhood book about the traditional passion play performances in Oberammergau, Germany. Peter Marks, of The Washington Post, calls Ruhl a"fresh and provocative voice that the theatre desperately needs."
